David J. Galas

David Galas, PhD is an internationally recognized expert in molecular biology and human genetics, well known for his work in the Human Genome Project. Most recently, as a senior investigator at the Pacific Northwest Research Institute (PNRI), he has focused primarily on computational biology. We celebrate and honor his exemplary body of work and life as we prepare ongoing tributes submitted by his close friends and colleagues. David’s family has received many emotional calls from colleagues and friends that express their recognition of the amazing scope and depth of David’s lifetime work as well their deep respect and love for David as a leader, scientist, poet, artist, and friend.

David Galas was a Hertz fellow and worked tirelessly for the Foundation for nearly 50 years. He has served as the Hertz Foundation’s Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2008.  The foundation has had a Chair Emeritus position available during its entire history. They have given David Galas the title of Chairman Emeritus; this is the first time that a candidate was worthy of the honor.
